George L. Burke, Assistant Chief
Ernesto Martinez, Division Chief

Are days were becoming shorter, it seemed the long summer days were behind us, and the early darkness was catching up as we made our way closer to the east coast. We located the FD, and then checked into a hotel room for the night.

The memorial banner project was scheduled to be at the FD very early. This is usually when most of the Fire Chiefs are available. And the changing of shifts has the most firefighters around. After roll call, everyone gathered around to sign the banner, and talk with us about our journey. By now, the banner had grown even bigger, and the approaching goal was in sight. We took our coffee with us on the road to Chicago IL.
