It was an unusual short drive, and we arrived before noontime. We had been in contact with the Gladstone FD and went here first. It was a small station located just outside of the city. At this time we still hadn’t had confirmation to bring the banner into the Convention Center. It was with the introduction by Chief Scheffner that we were permitted to set the banner up for the next two days out front of the building. The Convention Center downtown was hosting the International Fire Chiefs Convention on this weekend. We were made aware of this big event also by Jon Hansen (see OKLAHOMA), and we timed our tour on being here for it. Invited to this event are FD Chiefs from all over the world, and there were thousands in attendance. The event features an exhibition of new equipment, and seminars.

It was without any surprise that we seen Jon and Rich Wolf (see ARIZONA) together here on the first day. We also met several other Chiefs from other cities we visited, some as far back as SC. They were excited to see the size of the banner now. We had also reserved a room well in advance for this weekend. And we even got to meet up with some friends of my dads that drove here from Springfield MO to sign the banner.
